The Visionary Behind VisionAID
Dr. Mohammed Hussein Ahmed
In the heart of the vibrant Kurdistan Region, a transformative figure emerged to address the complex challenges of education, justice, and sustainable development. Dr. Mohammed Hussein Ahmed, a seasoned academic, visionary leader, and tireless advocate for progress, founded Vision Agency for International Development (VisionAID) in 2024 to bridge the gap between local and global communities.

A Journey of Learning and Leadership
Dr. Mohammed’s story began in 2000 when he graduated from Salahaddin University, armed with a passion for education and a commitment to societal change. This passion led him to Diyala University, where he earned his Master’s degree in Methodology and Applied Linguistics in 2006. Not content to rest on his laurels, he pursued a Ph.D. in English Linguistics and Pragmatics—specializing in Forensic Linguistics—at the University of Sulaimani in 2011.
His academic journey wasn’t confined to the borders of Iraq. Dr. Mohammed participated in an exchange program at Appalachian State University in North Carolina in 2009, followed by an academic visit to Aston University in Birmingham, UK, in 2010. These experiences broadened his global perspective and solidified his belief in the transformative power of education and international collaboration.
A Catalyst for Change
In May 2005, Dr. Mohammed took on the pivotal role of Director General and Head of the Apparatus of Supervision and Quality Assurance at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). Over the years, he became a beacon of innovation, promoting quality assurance, internationalization, and governance in higher education.
His expertise was recognized globally when he was appointed a member of the advisory board for Times Higher Education for Arab University Rankings in 2024. This position further underscored his dedication to enhancing academic standards and fostering global cooperation.

Founding VisionAID: A Dream Takes Shape
The founding of VisionAID was a natural evolution of Dr. Mohammed’s lifelong commitment to societal development. Observing the intertwined challenges of education, justice, and sustainability in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, he envisioned an organization that could address these issues holistically while fostering global partnerships.
VisionAID became the embodiment of this dream—a nonprofit organization designed to empower individuals, promote justice, and tackle critical issues such as climate change, youth employability, and women’s leadership. Its ambitious scope includes fostering dialogue, enhancing mental health services, and leveraging digitalization to revolutionize education and governance.

Dr. Mohammed’s leadership style combines deep academic insight with a pragmatic approach to solving real-world problems. He is known for inspiring others to pursue excellence and fostering collaborations that transcend borders. Through VisionAID, he has provided a platform for young leaders, educators, and changemakers to contribute to building a more inclusive, resilient, and prosperous future for Kurdistan, Iraq, and beyond.
